Profiled Project — Moving from Education to Action
GroundWorks Campaigns was proud to partner with the California Labor Federation during 2010 in a year-long program to support California labor unions building member involvement for political action. The goal was to “build an army” of working families to help get politics in California back on track through victories at the ballot box – and it helped to deliver a resounding win for California’s new Governor Jerry Brown as well as other Democratic candidates statewide.
As part of this program, GroundWorks Campaigns designed and facilitated a series of Campaign Schools in Modesto, Los Angeles and the Bay Area for union activists and staff. Participants developed their hands-on political campaign skills in areas including volunteer recruitment, messaging, on-line organizing and Getting Out the Vote.
GroundWorks also worked intensively throughout the year with statewide unions including the United Food and Commercial Workers and the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers, rolling out campaigns to register their members to vote, raise political funds and involve them in political action.
