"Assembly District 5 has been a Republican District for over 28 years. GroundWorks Campaigns worked with me through a competitive primary and general election in what some had said was an “unwinnable” race for a Democrat. GroundWorks delivered strategic targeting and day-to-day field management that was essential to my success in winning this "unwinnable" seat."

Electoral Campaigns

GroundWorks Campaigns builds winning ground programs for candidate and initiative (or ballot measure) campaigns. From our experience, we know that person-to-person contact makes the crucial difference in winning elections, especially in tight races.

Putting this into practice, we provide intensive, hands-on support for:

  • Planning your strategic field campaign including voter targeting
  • Contacting voters directly and personally through door-knocking, phone calls, house meetings, friends and family outreach, and more
  • Registering voters
  • Managing paid and volunteer programs
  • Hiring, training and managing all levels of campaign staff and volunteers
  • Ongoing program assessment, accountability and strategy adjustments as needed to win
  • Facilitating project or campaign evaluation and analysis.

Profiled Project — The GroundWorks Difference

In 2010, the Alliance for a Better CA 2010 Committee contracted with GroundWorks Campaigns to run a statewide field campaign in support of Jerry Brown for Governor. GroundWorks Campaigns managed a massive statewide field operation with 11 offices around the state. Organizers phoned and knocked on voters’ doors in six different languages were to identify over 180,000 supporters for Jerry Brown.

Analysis of voter turnout after the election showed that targeted voters who received mail only from the campaign were 5% more likely to vote for Brown than other voters. However, targeted voters who met an organizer at their door or got a phone call were almost 20% more likely to vote for Jerry Brown.

Person-to-person contact on the ground made the difference!

In this campaign we also increased turnout for Brown of targeted occasional voters an average of 11%, with some groups of voters coming out to vote at an even higher rate – especially youth and the so-called “Obama surge” voters (up to 18%).
