GroundWorks Campaigns builds winning ground programs for candidate and initiative (or ballot measure) campaigns. From our experience, we know that person-to-person contact makes the crucial difference in winning elections, especially in tight races.
Putting this into practice, we provide intensive, hands-on support for:
- Planning your strategic campaign including voter targeting
- Contacting voters directly and personally through door-knocking, phone calls, house meetings, friends and family outreach, and more
- Registering voters
- Managing paid and volunteer programs
- Hiring, training and managing all levels of campaign staff and volunteers
- Ongoing program assessment, accountability and strategy adjustments as needed to win
- Facilitating project or campaign evaluation and analysis.
During the June 2010 primary season GroundWorks Campaigns worked with a number of California State Assembly and City Council candidates, providing campaign management and both volunteer and paid field programs to contact voters.
We’re proud to have been part of the winning campaigns of four State Assembly candidates this spring: Democrats Dr. Richard Pan (AD 5 in the Sacramento area), Bob Wieckowski (AD 20 in the Fremont area), Mike Gatto (AD 43 in Los Angeles) and Ricardo Lara (AD 50 also in Los Angeles).
Dr. Richard Pan is a practicing physician and educator at UC Davis Children’s Hospital. One of his proudest achievements was creating a grassroots program providing free health care to disadvantaged kids.

Bob Wieckowski has been a champion for bringing clean, green, family-supporting jobs to the Fremont area such as the Tesla electric car production facility which will soon be locating in the vacated NUMMI Toyota plant.

Mike Gatto is a lawyer from Los Angeles who also worked for Congressman Brad Sherman as his Acting Chief of Staff. He is committed to working in Sacramento to balance the budget, develop clean industry and provide good jobs and opportunities for all Californians.

Ricardo Lara is an LA County Consumer Affairs Commissioner who will fight to raise the minimum wage, fight to make certain every young person can go to college and fight for everyone’s right to healthcare.

GroundWorks Campaigns also worked in Eastern Europe this spring to support the efforts of the Slovakian SDL Party (Strana Demokratickej Lavice) to elect new leaders in their June parliamentary elections. Together with AKPD Media and Markham Group, GroundWorks staff is helped SDL put in place a field campaign using direct voter contact techniques that have not been typically used in Slovakia – phoning, door-knocking and worksite actions – as well as building on Slovakia’s existing strong political traditions.
GroundWorks staff trained a team of organizers in Slovakia to lead SDL’s field campaign in regions throughout the country.
