Profiled Project — Building Power One Voter at a Time

More than one quarter of all registered voters in California live in Los Angeles County and the area is the largest pool of Democratic voters in the state as well. Unfortunately, for Democrats, LA County is also plagued with low voter turnout. One way to fix the low voter turnout is to sign up registered voters to vote by mail. The higher the number of vote-by-mail voters in an area, the higher the turnout.

In 2011, GroundWorks Campaigns partnered with the California Democratic Party in “Operation Game Changer”, an intensive field program aimed at signing up registered Democrats throughout Los Angeles County who don’t vote consistently to become vote-by-mail voters. With good data analysis and tireless teams of paid and volunteer organizers, we were successful in signing up over 50,000 new vote-by-mail voters.
